McKinnon Secondary College unlikely to change size of school zone, denying outer-zone Glen Eira student’s access to a superior education.
MySchool’s latest statistics indicates that McKinnon Secondary College has one of the highest percentages of students entering University in the Glen Eira region, yet it has the smallest zoning boundary for a public school in Victoria.
In 2010 McKinnon Secondary College saw more than half of their graduating students move up into tertiary education.
The College is so adamant on only accepting enrolments from houses on the inside of the boundary that evidence of residence such as a current rates notice or lease/rent agreement are to be submitted with each enrolment.
In many circumstances this can mean that residents living less than three kilometers from the school, but in the outer-zone area, will need to travel across several suburbs to Wesley College Elsternwick campus for a similar standard of education.
The Caulfield Glen Eira Leader has reported that McKinnon Secondary College is so sought after that families buy or rent within its zone just so they have an opportunity to send their children to the high performing school.
The McKinnon Secondary College website says the zone is unlikely to be altered in the coming years to accomodate other close by residents, but neither the State or school can guarantee it will remain in it’s current form.
